Wash Me With Pure Water | Video installation: Projection| Duration: 5.28 minutes (looping) | 2013
The focus is on waste and the culture of waste. Cleanliness and its spritual overtones are explored as in a perverse and unexpected manner, through the use of mundane objects and the practice of everyday gestures. The absent human body is displaced by the physical presence of the toilet. As the harmful waste the body produces is cleansed by the black water, the term ‘purgation’ acquires a double meaning, and body and toilet, spirituality and physicality, become quasi-interchangeable. The effect is a cyclic one, the purification is nonetheless never complete. Action and gesture are explored as self-contained, obsessive in nature, meaningless and futile.
